H. James Pfaeffle, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Pfaeffle studied mechanical engineering prior to entering medical school. He earned both his medical degree and his doctorate in bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Pfaeffle also completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Pfaeffle completed a hand surgery fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he refined his skills in hand and upper extremity surgery and microsurgery. Dr. Pfaeffle has served as a basic science researcher and clinical instructor, has written more than 20 articles on research aimed at improving upper extremity orthopedic surgery techniques and has been awarded several research grants. He also served as editor of The Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Journal in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
